Clinical Psychologist

Dr Laura McKenzie-Smith is a Clinical Psychologist dedicated to creating positive therapeutic relationships and safe, containing therapy experiences through warmth, compassion and care. She offers an online clinic on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Since qualifying Laura has gained specialist experience working in the NHS with people who experience complex mental health difficulties stemming from traumatic experiences. This has included PTSD, Complex PTSD, depression, anxiety disorders and other mental health conditions. Her approach is person-centred, getting to know the person and their experiences in order to develop a tailored plan to help them move on with their journey. This often involves using an integrative approach, drawing on psychological theory and evidence based interventions using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Narrative Therapy, in order to tailor care to the person’s needs.

Laura works collaboratively with people to help them to move towards living their lives in accordance with their values, despite the challenges that life brings. She supports people to understand what is keeping them stuck, and to find a way forwards in a way that is meaningful for them.
